Pleven, 1943 – Sofia, 2015
He was born in Pleven and studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade with professors Mladen Serbinović and Radenko Mishević. He graduated in 1971 and the following year became a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He mainly worked with landscapes, interiors, and still lifes. His style was initially realistic, but gradually moved toward an abstract, distinctly decorative direction. Likewise, his colors—mainly muted browns and grays—cultivated a dreamlike atmosphere. Ultimately, his paintings convey lyricism with influences from Symbolism and the Nabis. He had presented his work in more than 15 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad (Bucharest, Budapest, etc.), and had taken part in exhibitions of Bulgarian art in the UK, Belgium, Germany, among others. His paintings are today housed in major Bulgarian museums, such as the National Gallery, the Pleven Gallery, as well as in private collections. In 2023 Arte Gallery (Sofia) presented a retrospective of his work. He was twice awarded (1983, 1987) the Vladimir Dimitrov Prize by the Union of Bulgarian Artists, and received the National Painting Prize Zachary Zograf (2007).
