Radeva, Margarita (Радева, Маргарита)
Sofia, 1967
She studied painting at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia with professors Petar Mihailov and Andrei Daniel (1986–1992). With a state scholarship she pursued postgraduate studies in painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, under Chronis Botsoglou, Takis Patraskidis, and Rena Papaspirou. From 1997 to 2001 she studied sculpture under Theodoros Papagiannis. She taught as a research associate in the Graphic Design Department of the Athens TEI (1998–1999) and from 2005 to 2018 at the Athens Model Educational Institute. A painter, sculptor, and ceramist, she has produced a rich, multifaceted body of work. Her early paintings were in a realist spirit. Her later works, while not denying descriptive accuracy, adopted an expressionist style characterized by free color and bold brushstrokes. Thematically, they form allegories with the female figure as protagonist. Her sculptural work follows a similar approach, while her ceramics are more decorative. Her first solo exhibition was held at Sapio Gallery, Sofia, in 1993. Since then, she has presented her work in solo shows in Greece and Bulgaria, the most recent being at the Ivan Seliminski Cultural Center, Athens (2025). She has also participated in group exhibitions and received various awards—such as the second prize in the Municipality of Lesvos competition on the sculpture “The Asia Minor Mother” in Nea Koutali, Lemnos (2005), and the second prize in the 45th national artistic ceramics competition (2006). She has taken part in seven international symposia of painting and sculpture, notably playing a leading organizational role in the two Balkan Symposia at Kontias (1999 and 2001).
