Alexandria, 1951
His grandfather was from Cephalonia but worked as a tailor in Myrina. His grandmother was from Lemnos. His parents relocated to Alexandria, Egypt, where he was born and raised. He studied textile design in Athens (specializing in liturgical vestments). A self-taught painter, he produced portraits in ink. He became more systematically involved with painting after his retirement. The main theme of his work is the landscape of Lemnos: traditional settlements, stone houses, beaches, natural scenery. His style, while close to sharp, photographic realism, betrays the naïve character of a self-taught artist. Skoutaris has participated in group exhibitions in Athens, while in 2011 the Gallery of Contemporary Balkan Art in Kontias organized a major solo exhibition of his work.
