Fyrigou, Zozefina
Athens, 1970
She comes from Tinos, where she spent much of her childhood. She lives and works in Athens. She studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1999–2004) under Rena Papaspirou and Dimitris Mytaras. In 2018 she received a Master’s degree from Harokopio University, specializing in Cultural Education. For many years she taught visual arts, freehand drawing, and Art History in secondary education. Recently she illustrated Sotiris Sampanis’ book ‟The Eternity of the Two” (Perispomeni Editions, Athens 2024). Primarily a figurative painter, she draws inspiration from the landscape of Tinos. Her landscapes absorb elements such as strong light and pure color. She is also interested in the human figure, which she renders expressionistically. In her recent work she has focused on flowers and dreamlike landscapes, executed on handmade paper with light materials. Gradually, her work has incorporated influences from Chinese art and Abstract Expressionism. She has participated in group exhibitions in Athens and other Greek cities. Notable among them: ‟1922–2022 – Exodus–Outlet” (Former Public Tobacco Factory, Athens 2023) and ‟One dot, three spots” (House of Culture, Rethymno, July 2023). The exhibition ‟Speckled Light” at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Kontias, Lemnos (2023) was her first solo presentation.
