Androni, Lemnos, 1956 – Athens, 2019
Born in Androni, Lemnos, but at the age of 11 his family settled in Palaio Faliro. He studied painting, freehand drawing, history of theatrical costume, fashion design, and stage design at BOZAR School. From 1990 to 1998 he worked as a Production Director in Greek television. In 1998 he founded the art company ‟WAX and CRAFT by Pomonis,” combining painting with applied arts by creating handmade candles and glass constructions. A figurative painter, he was drawn to still life, interiors, and above all, landscapes. His still lifes at times adopted a surrealist approach, while his landscapes moved closer to photographic realism. He began exhibiting in group shows in Greece in 1981. From 2000 until his death he held solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Milan, Florence, Siena, Frankfurt, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, among others). Prifti, Gelton (Tirana, 1977) Son of Vlash Prifti, he studied painting at the University of Arts of Tirana (graduated in 1995). After graduation, he worked as a designer in a private Albanian television channel. Today he lives and works in Tirana as a designer in a private studio. His painting draws on his background in graphic arts. He employs corporate logos and recognizable, everyday objects, removed from their original context and projected against unified, abstract, expressionist zones of pure color. In this way, he adopts an approach akin to American Pop Art and advertising, to comment on contemporary capitalist society through essentially allegorical compositions.
