Initially a student in Andreas Georgiadis\u2019 studio, he abandoned formal studies in 1953 in order to work with Fotis Kontoglou. From 1953 to 1959, he collaborated with Kontoglou on portable icons and church murals. A figurative painter, Kopsidis explored landscapes, still lifes, and compositions dominated by the human figure. His devotion to post-Byzantine and folk art shaped his early style. Gradually moving away from Kontoglou\u2019s influence, he developed a personal idiom combining Byzantine and folk elements with realistic references and a vision akin to surrealism. Characteristic is his series of paintings on Lavrio, while his later work is deeply poetic, drawing inspiration from childhood memories of Lemnos. As an iconographer, he decorated churches in Greece and abroad, notably the Orthodox monastery of Chevetogne (Belgium) and the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chamb\u00e9sy (Geneva). He also worked extensively in printmaking (woodcuts, linocuts, etchings) and illustrated books and periodicals. From 1972 to 1974 he published and illustrated the quarterly magazine \u201fKanistro\u201d, which he also hand-bound. In addition, he wrote and illustrated prose works, and published essays in magazines and newspapers. His first solo exhibition was hosted at the gallery Techni (Athens, 1958). Numerous solo shows followed, mainly in Athens but also in other Greek cities. He participated in group exhibitions both in Greece and abroad (Cologne 1976, Cameroon 1980, Ireland 1989, Belgium 1994). A major retrospective of his work was organized by the National Gallery of Greece in 1989 (Athens and Alexandroupolis). Another retrospective was held at the Municipal Gallery of Patras (1994).
