That same year he began participating in group exhibitions. His themes are inspired by religion, spirituality, and the metaphysical, and are distinguished by their dramatic tone. His style draws on Symbolism (recalling the work of Odilon Redon) but also incorporates Expressionist elements through abstraction, anti-realist color, and a bold, textured brushstroke. After 1989 he stopped exhibiting his work and became one of the most enigmatic figures of contemporary Bulgarian art. His last exhibition at Rayko Aleksiev Hall in Sofia in 2001 was the only exception to this deliberate withdrawal from artistic life.
