Romano, Marco Victor
Benevento, 1987
He began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples in 2009. In 2014 he received a scholarship from the Academy of Visual Arts (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) in Leipzig, where he stayed for one year. Upon returning to Italy, he graduated and then moved to Amsterdam for postgraduate studies. Today, he divides his time between Benevento, Rome, and Amsterdam. Ancient myths—especially the figure of Icarus—formed the core of his early, expressionist painting. Gradually, he turned toward installation art, employing in his works a wide range of materials: metal, glass, plaster, paint, gypsum, fabric, etc. Drawing inspiration from the avant-garde movements of the late twentieth century, his recent installations focus on the interaction between space and viewer, fostering reflection on science, philosophy, and their place in contemporary society. His first solo exhibition, ‟Tratti eterei” (‟Ethereal Traits”), was hosted at Palazzo Paolo V in Benevento (2010). Further exhibitions followed in various Italian cities, with the most recent, ‟L’impossibile che si Manifesta” (‟The Impossible that Manifests”), presented at Fondazione ArtEnto in Budapest (2023). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, mostly in Italy but also abroad. He has received numerous awards, beginning with the “Premio Callisto” (Palazzo Paolo V, Benevento, 2009). In 2014, he won first prize with his work ‟26 anni” (‟26 Years”) in the competition “Art and Sport 2014,” held at the Sala delle Armi (Foro Italico, Rome) by the Italian National Olympic Academy, the Giulio Onesti Foundation, and the Italian National Olympic Committee, on the occasion of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (2014).
