Hadjidakis, Panikkos Panagi
Famagusta, 1965
His family originates from Crete. A refugee since 1974, he graduated in 1984 from the American Academy of Larnaca. He pursued free studies in painting under Cypriot painter Petros Ptohopoullos, who encouraged him to engage with historical painting inspired by the history of Hellenism. Today he lives and works in Larnaca. Although influenced by Ptohopoullos’ themes and style, Hadjidakis follows a more free, naïve path. The subjects of his paintings are episodes from ancient Greek history (particularly the exploits of Alexander the Great), rendered with a simple, vivid style, clear drawing, and bright colors. His abstract compositions, however, are closer to Abstract Expressionism. He has taken part in group exhibitions in Cyprus, Greece, and other countries, and has been awarded various prizes in international shows, including the ‟Global Award of Fine Arts” from the United Nations and First Prize Premio at the World Biennale of Art in Pescara, Italy. His works are in museums, galleries, and both public and private collections. In 2025 he served as director of the Triennale Agia Napa 2025.
